Beat Poets
WordPlay is a program that operates by sending poets into high schools, elementary schools and community centres to run performance and writing workshops. By bringing contemporary, active poets into the classroom, the program makes poetry immediate and relevant to teachers and students alike. WordPlay is dedicated to bringing poetry to the classroom, and to exposing students to poetry as a living, breathing art form. The program was established in January 2005, making it the longest-running poetry in schools service, staffed by the most experienced workshop leaders in Vancouver. Our poets run performance and writing workshops in dozens of high schools, elementary schools, and community centres every year. The program engages students, giving them the opportunity to find their own voice..
